Is hemp wool for thermal insulation of buildings a good alternative to the thermal insulation materials used so far?
In construction, we know and commonly use such raw materials as: glass wool, mineral wool, polystyrene. More and more often we also implement ecological materials such as: wood and hemp wool. These and many other materials – as we know – we use to insulate our houses and flats. Some of the above also have a soundproofing function, so we can successfully use them in the case of a concert hall or recording studio. We will focus on the least conventional method of building insulation so far, which is the installation of hemp thermal insulation mats. Hemp wool for thermal insulation of buildings is a reasonable choice of insulation material.
Why is it worth investing in the installation of hemp thermal insulation mats?
The decision to choose hemp wool as insulation material for our home is one of the best decisions we can make. There are many advantages of installing hemp thermal insulation mats. Before we list them, we will explain what is hidden under the – many foreign to us – name “hemp thermal insulation mat”. It is an insulating material that we produce from industrial hemp. Industrial hemp is becoming an increasingly popular form of crop production on farms. For mental and moral reasons, this is still a controversial topic. Many inexperienced people associate hemp only with intoxicants, and we already know that these plants also have beneficial uses. The production of thermal insulation mats is an example of this. Hemp is an effective and healthier substitute for standard raw materials from which we produce classic insulating materials: stone or mineral.
Advantages of using building insulation with hemp insulation mat
Undoubtedly, the overriding advantages of using this type of building insulation include its neutrality towards the environment and human health. In addition, hemp mats are allergy-friendly, and – similarly to the installation of wooden boards – we do not need to use protective clothing and masks. Both the hemp mat production process itself and the assembly are completely safe. Given the lack of proteins in the structure of the mat, we do not have to worry about pests, e.g. moths or mice. Hemp mats are moisture resistant. They are able to absorb about 20% of moisture from the air and their insulating ability does not suffer from this. In this way, we have a guarantee of healthy air in our rooms. In addition, compared to classic mineral mats, hemp mats provide better protection against cold loss in winter and hot air permeability in summer. The thermal properties of the raw material are due to its low thermal conductivity with the simultaneous ability to accumulate heat.

An important advantage of choosing a hemp thermal insulation mat for building insulation is its easy, non-irritating installation. Depending on the needs of customers, various sizes of mats are available on the market. We can install them in new and older buildings, regardless of the material they are made of (brick, board, wood).
