Is it possible to remove CO2 from the air?
In the 21st century, the problem of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere from various sources is constantly piling up. We are constantly polluting the natural environment, including the air. In this way, we contribute to increasing the greenhouse effect every day. We are making the glaciers melt, we are having hotter summers and droughts. In the temperate zone, we are dealing with a real snowy and frosty winter less and less. Let us note that due to the covid-19 pandemic, restrictions on the movement of vehicles and production stoppages in many areas, winter in 2021 returned to the temperate zone – or at least to Poland – after almost 10 years!
This is therefore clear evidence that man is undoubtedly responsible for climate change. However, we cannot fully control the development of civilization and consumerism. Therefore, scientists have been taking steps for years to help reduce the amount of harmful gas in the atmosphere. Researchers from one of the car concerns came up with an interesting idea. Removing CO2 from the air is possible!
An extraordinary filter invention that removes CO2 from the atmosphere
Researchers who specialize in “green technology” have produced a filter that removes CO2 from the atmosphere. We can easily adapt it to specific tasks. All thanks to its modular design, so we are able to expand it in the future. For the production of the filter, the scientists used a filter material, which is an inorganic material. Thanks to it, we can implement a technology that will be used for “direct air capture”. Here we have in mind the promising technique of direct air captur (DAC). It consists in cleaning the captured air with a machine from carbon dioxide. The undoubted advantage of the discussed solution is the fact that the air filtering operation does not have to be preceded by a drying process. Thanks to this, we reduce operating costs and improve the efficiency of operations.
Where has the Purifying Filter already been tried?
This filter that removes CO2 from the atmosphere has already been installed in one of the Austrian factories. In a year, specialists estimated the total removal of as much as 500 tons of carbon dioxide from the air! The scientists who worked on the project plan to equip the filter structure with another module in the near future. This will generate 1,000 tons of CO2 from which the air will be cleaned. Let us remember that the obtained carbon dioxide can be used in industry or stored. The air that we have filtered after the absorption operation is completed is returned to the atmosphere.
