Which honey is the healthiest? What to consider when choosing honey?

Undeniably, honeys are healthy and have many health benefits, but there are some honeys that are considered more appropriate for health because of their properties. Of course, we should remember that the quality of honey depends on its origin and the honesty of the owner of the honey producer. After all, it is not difficult to buy half-artificial honey, with a large admixture of sugar and other substances that enhance the taste or aroma.

Although we have a wide selection of honeys from Polish apiaries, Manuka honey from New Zealand is considered one of the healthiest types of honey. It has strong anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties, thanks to the content of a natural chemical compound known as MGO (methylglycoxal). This honey is also rich in antioxidants that help protect the body from the damaging effects of free radicals.

Which honey for whom?

If we have diabetes, then acacia honey is the one we should choose. It contains low amounts of glucose and fructose, making it more suitable for people with diabetes. Acacia honey also contains a lot of flavonoids that help protect the body against heart disease and cancer.

Let’s choose eucalyptus honey when we often struggle with throat and respiratory infections. It has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Eucalyptus honey also has a soothing effect on coughs and sore throats.

If we were to finally decide on a specific choice of a particular honey, it is strongly dependent on individual taste preferences and health needs. Each type of honey has its own unique properties and health benefits, so it’s worth experimenting and discovering which honey works best for you.
