XPENG X2: two years after the historic public flight in Dubai - the future of flying cars is becoming a reality

On October 10, 2022, XPENG AEROHT, the largest flying car manufacturer in Asia, conducted the first global public flight of its electric vehicle XPENG X2 in Dubai. This historic event took place in Dubai at Skydive Dubai, attracting the attention of hundreds of industry representatives, media and international institutions. Since then, the XPENG X2 flight has been a key moment in the development of urban air transport.

Flying cars, or eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing), are now getting closer to mass implementation. These vehicles have the potential to revolutionize transportation over congested cities thanks to vertical takeoff and landing. XPENG AEROHT has already received official approval for manned tests in China, and these vehicles will soon be delivered to customers.

Dubai as an innovative center for the future of transport

Dubai, as a global innovation center, was the perfect location for the premiere flight of the XPENG X2. Two years after this event, Dubai is still a key point on the map of the development of modern transport technologies. Since then, XPENG has been constantly developing its technologies, as evidenced by further innovations, such as the release in 2023 of the Land Aircraft Carrier – a large truck equipped with a two-seat passenger electric drone that can be disconnected from the vehicle and used for flights. This modern solution shows how much the company is expanding its offer in the field of urban air transport.

New XPENG plans – flying cars available in 2026

XPENG AEROHT announced that the company’s first commercial flying car will reach customers in 2026, and some selected customers will be able to try it out in 2024. Brian Gu, vice president of XPENG, emphasized that this vehicle will be intended for flights mainly on the outskirts of cities, in the so-called “picturesque areas”. The company plans to cooperate with local authorities to create special flying zones and parks, which will facilitate the use of this type of transport by eliminating complicated administrative procedures.

Important information for potential users is the fact that flying this vehicle will not require a license as long as it takes place in recreational areas. However, those wishing to fly closer to cities will need to obtain appropriate approvals, which will be a more complex process. The vice president of XPENG noted that the company is working to simplify these procedures to gain greater flexibility in using vehicles in various areas.

Advanced technologies and the future of transport

XPENG X2, the first eVTOL from XPENG AEROHT, made of ultra-light carbon fiber, weighs 560 kg, and its total weight can be 760 kg. The vehicle is equipped with foldable rotor arms, which reduces its width to 1.95 meters. It reaches a flight speed of up to 130 km/h and its maximum flight altitude is 1,000 meters. The flight time is up to 35 minutes, which makes it an ideal solution for fast transport over urban agglomerations.

As part of further development, XPENG plans to introduce the X3 model, which will be able to operate both on roads and in the air. The price of this model is expected to be approximately 1 million Chinese yuan (PLN 653,000). XPENG AEROHT intends to deliver the first flying cars to its customers in 2026, but already in 2024, selected users will be able to test the vehicle in pre-sale.

XPENG at GITEX GLOBAL 2022

In October 2022, during GITEX GLOBAL, XPENG X2 attracted great interest from the international audience. The XPENG AEROHT stand attracted crowds thanks to modern technologies and futuristic vehicle design. This event continues to generate excitement in the industry, and the company continues to work on bringing its flying cars to market.

Flying cars - the future of transport

While the concept of flying cars is not new, recent designs such as the XPENG X2 mainly focus on the ability to fly, eliminating the function of traditional road driving. However, XPENG goes a step further by introducing new solutions, such as the Land Aircraft Carrier, which combine the possibilities of land and air transport.

In the future, the company intends to develop further models of flying vehicles, which will be used mainly in recreational areas and picturesque places, where they will be available to a wide group of users. He Xiaopeng, CEO of XPENG, has repeatedly emphasized that the development of robotics and flying cars are the company’s long-term goals that are intended to revolutionize the way we perceive urban transport.

XPENG AEROHT – leader in innovative mobility

XPENG AEROHT continually works to integrate advanced transportation technologies, combining intelligent control systems with aviation innovations. Thanks to the obtained license for manned flights and the planned implementation of flying cars on the market, the company is getting closer to realizing its vision of a revolution in urban transport.

Already, two years after the first public flight of XPENG X2, the company is at the forefront of technological changes that are expected to revolutionize not only urban mobility, but also the way we travel every day. XPENG continues to work on the X3 model and further develop flying cars that could hit the market in the coming years, transforming the face of global transportation.
