What can we fence the plot with? What materials are best to use to build a fence?

Fencing our plot is not only a matter of setting the border and meeting the need for security. In our opinion, the fence also has a representative function, so it is worth taking care of its aesthetics. So what do we mean by this term in the case of the product in question? First of all, it is important that we think carefully about what material our fence is best made of. It should – of course – fit well with the property that we built on the plot. Color and style. What can we fence the plot with? There are many possibilities today.

Let's start with concrete

Concrete fences experienced their heyday in the 1990s. Today they are back again. Their main advantage is the fact that we do not have to worry about the possible destructive influence of atmospheric factors in their case. Manufacturers impregnate such a concrete fence at the factory, which perfectly protects against moisture, too high temperature or frost. Such a fence is also not afraid of biological factors. Additional advantages of such a fence are resistance to damage, ease of assembly, and flexibility of the material. A concrete fence fits well with modern construction. We can successfully create complete and elegant openwork fences. Concrete fences can take many forms. Therefore, we present the forms that a concrete fence can take.

  • Concrete slabs – we install them with invisible or visible anchors and with glue. The costs of such a fence depend on the type of installation (in a wall or aluminum structure) and on the valuation of the project.
  • Cast concrete fencing – this is one of the most expensive forms of concrete fencing. Why? To implement such a project, we need a proven construction team with specialized equipment. In addition, the work during the installation of such a fence is time-consuming. What’s more, each failure threatens serious consequences in the form of cracks and ugly discoloration. An additional drawback here is the lack of factory impregnation of such concrete.
  • Brick fence – if we want our fence to have the form of “solid concrete”, then a better alternative will be the installation of a brick fence. Such a wall is solid, tight, although it requires a lot of work and money. Currently, there is a fashion for eclectic fences. We can successfully observe the connection of openwork bays made of wood or metal with brick posts. Concrete blocks imitating stone and clinker bricks are popular today.

  • Concrete panels  – we are dealing here with ready-made elements that may resemble wood, brick or stone. The indisputable advantage of installing such a fence is the relatively short time needed to complete the project. Employees have ready-made components from which a whole will be created. The overriding advantage of such a fence is the strengthening of the fence structure with reinforcement welded from ribbed bars. This adds to the resistance of the discussed structure to any mechanical damage. The choice of ready-made panels is large: from openwork, with concrete and metal spans, to full, solid concrete panels. After the assembly is completed, we can paint them with a special paint intended for concrete
  • Concrete blocks – for us, this is one of the most convenient forms of concrete fencing. We have adopted the colloquial name of a modular fence due to its modular construction. This is quite a convenient solution from the point of view of those who work on the installation of such a fence. Such concrete blocks can be successfully used as columns, between which we can mount wooden or metal spans. Of course, if we want, we can fill the empty spaces between the blocks with appropriate mortar or reinforcement.
  • A fence made of garden lawns – this type of fence can replace a fence made of blocks. The choice of the so-called of lawns is really big; i.e. they are available in different colors and shapes. What do we need to know? Such a fence over three meters high should be built on solid foundations. Solid assembly of the lawns will ensure that they are poured with concrete mortar. Such a fence works great when investors have a personal vision and want to squeeze the intended clearances into the fencing image. A lawn fence beautifully crowns garden plots, given the possibilities it gives us. We can fill the upper layer with soil and place, for example, pots on it.

What can we fence the plot with? When is it worth investing in the installation of a metal fence?

We consider metal fences to be modern and elegant. Among them, we distinguish those that are characterized by quick assembly due to ready-made, factory-made elements. We distinguish here all metal spans and panels of welded fencing mesh. Importantly, such panels are difficult to cut, so remember that we can afford this type of fence only on flat terrain.

The most expensive variant of the metal fence is the so-called forged. Usually, such an investment is so high that we only allow ourselves to assemble such beautiful, artistic spans (often straight from the blacksmith’s workshop), only from the front. The steel from which such fencing will be produced should be of good quality. Otherwise, we will have to maintain it regularly.

The cheapest version of a metal fence is a mesh fence. Such a mesh does not have many decorative qualities, but it can be placed even on uneven terrain and is easy to assemble. It will be successful in securing a property that does not require any special setting.

Advantages and disadvantages of a wooden fence

Wooden fencing has its supporters and opponents. Let’s start with its characteristics first. The most common element of the rural landscape at that time were undoubtedly traditional picket fences. We can also observe them today on some old properties. Currently, it is more popular to install the so-called. slatted fences, which are simply tall wooden panels. We also often encounter a combination of brick pillars, between which beautiful wooden spans are mounted. The advantages of a wooden fence include its warm image, ease of processing, as well as the possibility of self-maintenance with agents available on the market. The disadvantages, however, in the case of this type of fence, are the flammability of the raw material, as well as the potential threat of bark beetles and fungi attack, if it is not properly secured. It is worth noting that exotic wood varieties are much more expensive than those available in our climate zone, but they are also much more resistant to unfavorable weather conditions.

What can we fence the plot with? Or maybe a composite fence?

A good alternative to the above approximate fence is a composite fence. Most often it is in the form of connected boards on the so-called. notch and pen. We can also meet them in openwork compositions. The advantage of such a composite fence is the fact that it does not require so frequent care and maintenance treatments and is more resistant to changing climatic conditions (except for strong sun), microbes or pests. We can successfully install them when our property is located on a busy street, and the possibility of installing steel and aluminum reinforcements is an additional advantage. When deciding on a composite fence, remember not to save on good quality wood. Thanks to its high quality, we will certainly reduce susceptibility to possible harmful effects of strong sunlight in the summer.

How about original and unusual gabion fences?

Let’s start with an approximation of what is hidden under the enigmatic name “gabion fence”. Well, these are constructions of wire baskets, carefully filled with stones. To strengthen it, we must connect it with metal spans and a welded mesh. To give our property with such a fence an atmosphere, it is worth highlighting it. We should remember that the installation of such a fence should only be commissioned to qualified and experienced professionals to ensure that it is solid. Let’s not save on components. For the construction of such a fence, choose corrosion-resistant metals, and it will decorate your property for many years.
